Scarface Intro Sequence Redesign

Overview

This project is a high-impact conceptual redesign of the opening title sequence for the 1983 cinematic classic, Scarface. The objective was to capture the film’s iconic narrative of power and the gritty Miami underworld through a 60-second motion sequence. By integrating advanced 2.5D parallax compositing and kinetic typography, the final output delivers a modern broadcast-quality experience while staying true to the film's original dark and atmospheric mood.

The Challenges

The primary challenge of this project was the scarcity of high-quality source material, though a lot could be found behind paywalls. As a film from the early 1980s, available assets were limited to low-resolution stills and pixelated screen captures characterized by heavy compression and significant visual noise. This lack of high-fidelity data made it difficult to create a 1080p sequence without the final product appearing dated or blurry.

Execution

Image Restoration: Used Photoshop to manually clean edges and remove compression artifacts from low-res stills.

Layer Separation: Masked and separated subjects from backgrounds, repainting hidden areas to create complete layers.

2.5D Motion: Arranged layers in 3D space within After Effects. Used custom expressions for slow, rhythmic camera movement.

Stylistic Finish: Integrated original film grain and atmospheric lighting to maintain the look of the 1983 production.
